Love Your Tribe

I’ve heard people talk about their “Tribe” quite a bit lately and it got me wondering who my tribe is and what that means. Is it just family? Friends? Friends that are closer than family?

When patients check in to the emergency room, often they bring a person with them. I ask them, “How is this person related to you?” (I used to make guesses, but I have since stopped as there once was a mistake there was no going back from. Oops.)

I routinely hear, “They are a friend, but they might as well be family.”

I have a few friends that are like that and sometimes I wish they were blood so I could include them in this word “family.”

So, I think I might start incorporating the word “tribe” into my regular vocabulary.

.

To those that have been with me through my darkest days and have stuck by me, encouraging me, praying for me: you are my tribe.

To those that have recently become mothers alongside me, or those that have been mothers a long time and have given me valuable words of wisdom as I have started my journey: you are my tribe.

To the nurses that work alongside me, 12 hours on our feet, during holidays and every other day of the year, comforting family members and helping patients through the toughest moments of their lives: you are my tribe.

To the ones that drink waaaay to many cups of coffee throughout the day and then switch to wine at the unspoken appropriate time of the day: you are my tribe.

To the friends that are family, the ones that know me best, you know who you are: YOU ARE MY TRIBE.
