Every once in a while, I find myself having a moment of pride.
I think to myself, “Hey, I think I am getting the hang of this! I’m doing alright for myself!”
Inevitably, soon after these thoughts sprout up in my brain, something happens that humbles me back down to reality; the reality that I am just like every other woman, mother, sister out there that has NO IDEA what they are doing and is dancing the fake-it-till-you-make-it dance.
Yesterday, I was meeting another mom to get coffee and go on a walk with our babies. I found a great parking spot (not easy to do these days) and was actually on time (definitely not easy to do these days) and I was feeling good.
I walked into starbucks and was the first in line (hooray!) and the barista was very nice. He mentioned that his sister had just had a baby and he really “salutes” us mothers and the “multitasking game” that we play. I think he felt obligated to say something due to the fact that Ford literally tries to touch everything within his grasp AT ALL TIMES. He was in the middle of a “must touch everything” campaign while I was trying to pay (which looked like me trying to hold him and him trying to touch my wallet, the register, the candy, the credit card, my phone, the coffee straw, his milk, my purse, his toy, the scanner on the counter…) and breathe.
We managed to pay and shortly after got our coffee. I was thinking to myself, “Yes, we really do multitask quite a bit as mothers, but once you get the hang of it, its not that hard…”
It was about that moment, when I put my Venti Iced Americano on a table by the front door and went to change Ford from one hip to the other while putting my purse on my shoulder, that my purse just happened to swing right into my coffee and sent it flying (and when I say flying, I mean this sucker literally flew through the air). It landed on the ground right in front of the main entrance and went everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
There was a older gentleman sitting next to me that turned around in his chair and said, “Oh my!”
There was a young boy who walked by, trying to get out the door with his mother and he looked at the mess on the ground and said, “OH NO!!”
My sentiments exactly.
Spilled coffee is enough to bring some tears to this mama’s face!
So… Maybe I don’t have it all together.
My days are full of moments like these and I’ve realized that there is value in sharing them with others so they don’t have to feel like they have it all together.
So what funny story/event has happened to you lately??
Omg, so sorry this happened to you but oh what a laugh I had! Great way to start the day with a few giggles. I hope they made a new one for you as they cleaned up the mess.
