The Books I am Reading and Why: August Edition
I am a reader. I LOVE reading books any chance I get. I can never just read one at a time either…
I will admit that I have slowed down since becoming a mother, as my alone time is much less than it used to be, but now I find time before my son awakens for the day and after I put him to bed at night.
When I wake up in the morning, I am in a different reading mood than at night. I tend to want to read books that inspire, encourage and set my pace for the day: enter devotionals and personal development books! In the evening, I want to get lost in fiction. I especially love mysteries and rom/coms. The ones I am currently reading are listed below.
- The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing by Marie Kondo. If you are anything like me, you have seen this small book at every bookstore, boutique and coffee shop! It is everywhere! I have picked it up and put it back 100 times, but recently decided I wanted to know what it is all about. IF there is a way I can keep my house from being constantly cluttered, I want to know how to do it! I am about half-way through, so I will let you know what I think when I am done.
- Everybody Always by Bob Goff. I am seriously so excited to be reading this book. The meat of this book talks about loving everybody always, even when it is uncomfortable. Bob Goff inspires me to go out and serve and love people with the light and love of Jesus! I read his first book “Love Does” and it changed the way I see the world! I am only a few chapters in, but I love it so much I am reading it out loud to Mason any time he is near me so we both benefit!
- Seamless: Understanding the Bible as One Complete Story by Angie Smith. This is a devotional that I got online through Proverbs 31 Ministries. It is amazing so far and I highly recommend it for those that have never read the bible and those that have! I am learning a lot even though I have read these stories before and I love the discussions it brings when I talk about it with my husband or family members.
- Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Anne Fowler. This novel is set in the 1920s. It follows the journeys of F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda, as told through her eyes. I LOVE getting lost in this story; the time period, the fashions, the parties, Paris… oh it’s magical to me. The Great Gatsby is one of my all-time favorite novels, so to read about how it came to be (at least how she sees it) is very illuminating. I had started reading this book last year and somehow forgot that I was reading it (having a baby will do that to you!) So, I recently picked it up and started right where I left off and am loving it. I’ll let you know my full opinion when I am finished.
- High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard. This book is the force behind my new practice of intentionality. It explains the 5 habits that successful people exhibit regardless of background, economic status, job or gender. The habits aren’t “new” or “secret,” they are everyday practices that over time become habits and have the power to change how you see and react to the world around you. It is a very powerful book and I highly recommend it. Also, if I ever become very successful, you will know that this book is gold.
Okay! That is it for me this morning.
What are you reading right now? I’d love to know! Use the comment section and share a book or two with me! I am always looking for suggestions!
Hi there! Those sound like great books. I don’t Kermit how you can read all those books at the same time. They would get jumbled and scrambled in my head. I just started reading If by Mark Batterson. I’m only through chapter 1 bit it’s very thought provoking. I want to learn about God’s "what if" possibilities for me instead having "if only" regrets. I have enough of those already. Time to change that! Enjoy your books. I look forward to hearing more about them and all your "mom" insights and perspectives.God bless you.
