The Lord is With You
Do you ever catch yourself just going through the motions. Day in and day out, checking things off your list, taking your children to school, finishing projects, making dinner…
Some days seen very repetitious and I forget how amazing it is that I am here, that I have a loving family I get to take care of. I forget about eternity and that the Lord is near and that His kingdom is happening all around me. Eternal decisions are being made every day and I sometimes lose my cool because I forget my shopping list at home. I suppose perspective really does change everything.
When I remember how big my God is, that He created me, that He chose me, that He saved me, that He LOVES me, that He is with me… my perspective changes.
I’ve been reading through the Old Testament recently and read the first chapter of Joshua. In it, God is telling Joshua that He is going to fulfill His promise and that the Israelites are finally going to enter the promise land; Joshua is going to lead them in by conquering the people that live there and taking down the city. Reading all this in hindsight, it doesn’t seem all that scary, but it must have been because even though God was physically talking to Joshua and even though Joshua had seen God do miracles during his lifetime, God had to tell Joshua to “be strong and courageous” three different times in the first ten verses. He tells him not to be afraid because the Lord will be with him wherever he goes.
In the New Testament, in the end of the book of Matthew, Jesus has died and risen from the grave. He is giving his disciples last instructions before going back to heaven and He ends by saying, “And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
All throughout the Old Testament and the New, we are reminded by God Himself that He is with us. I think He knows that we are rather forgetful and short sighted at times and need that reminder over and over.
How will your day be different if you remind yourself all throughout the day that the Lord is near, that He is with you? Regardless of whether he is asking you to step out of your comfort zone to help another person, to love an enemy, to volunteer, to chase after your toddler for 12 straight hours, or to be a light in the dark at your workplace… whatever it is, He is with you.
He is with you.
