Monday Mom Meditation 20: New Years Ideals

Are you the type of person that typically makes New Years resolutions?

I am.

I love a challenge and the beginning of a new year always seems like the fresh start I’ve been looking for…

But things change when you begin to take into consideration not just your goals, but those of your family and your children (and you in relation to them).

Last year, in order to maximize my focus and my time, I would makes lists.

I expected to be able to complete all my lists, and I put a lot of pressure on myself.

At the end of the day, I didn’t feel a sense of satisfaction unless I completed the day’s list.

In hindsight, I am able to see that this wasn’t the best approach for me. I am the mother of a spirited toddler who needs constant supervision and his safety and sense of security and love is much more important than a to-do list. My days look different now than they used to and I’ve learned that I need to adapt.

So! This year I have decided to scale back and not do all the things all the days.

I am going to try to set 1 personal goal each day for something I would like to accomplish. And then I will re-evaluate and if it is still too much, then I will continue to cut back.

Don’t get me wrong… I have big plans for 2019! There are so many things I want to do! But I’ve recently realized that what they say is true! The days really do go by so quickly and I don’t want to look back and see that I made a to-do list a priority over unscheduled play time with choo-choo trains and super-hero capes.

So, for a list maker like myself, I am choosing to slow my roll on the lists and allow more space and time for play.

That is my 2019 resolution.

This may be the hardest one yet…
