The Benefits of Herbs

I don’t know about you, but I love cooking with fresh herbs. They make food “pop” for me and I recently learned that there are quite a few health benefits to using them as well!

Immune System Support

Herbs are rich in antioxidants, phytosterols, vitamins and other nutrients that help the body fight off disease and also manage toxins, thus boosting your immune system. Some of the most well known herbs in this category are: cinnamon, onion, ginger, hibiscus and garlic! Bring on that garlic bread! (Just kidding, kinda.)

Helps Inflammation

Herbs have anti-inflammatory properties that assist in health conditions like Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Helps you all around

Herbs have been known to help reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels!

Alzheimer’s Disease Prevention

The anti-inflammatory properties, along with antioxidants and anti-amyloid aspects, have been shown to help prevent Alzheimer’s Disease. One of the common herbs in this category is Gingko.

Skin care

We have all heard about Aloe Vera and its healing properties for our skin. But did you know that herbs have the power to help remove dark “age” spots? If you mix the powdered form of holy basil, neem, mint leaves and a pinch of Turmeric powder, it has been known to eventually cause the dark spots on our face to fade. Camomile oil can help damaged skin tissues when applied topically, and applying Jojoba oil in your hair and massaging it through can stimulate hair growth!

The Take Away

These were just a few things that I found when I started researching for myself! This doesn’t even though all of the healing aspects of using herbs in medicine! On the website OrganicFacts.net you can find a list of herbs and what the health benefits for each one are individually!
